I seem to be developing a reaction to Oystersteel; I get an itchy rash with red bumps on the sides of my wrist after wearing my Explorer. It used to only happen on really hot days, but recently it seems to be occurring even on normal days when I wear the watch all day. five years worth on my batman clasp. I’m looking for advice on a coating or treatment for my Rolex. I’ve got a Datejust, but it seems the nickel in the oystersteel gives me an allergic reaction. Is there any sort of permanent clear coating I can have applied, and if so, recommendations for places that do it?
I went and bought some clear nail polish and put it on the clasp, the spot that causes the rash, and it worked for a straight week with no issues at all. I then removed the polish, cleaned that bracelet and then reapplied and wore for two weeks straight with no issues. Those superficial swirlies and wear marks that Seamaster clasps seem prone to picking up can be easily removed with the Scotch Brite method. This is super easy to do, and takes, literally, seconds. Besides, any kind of watch looks better with some honest wear.
So I have the Rolex OP36 and it seems that the clasp is scratching the bracelet’s side. You can even see on one of the pictures that even the clasp does not seem to be over that part of the bracelet when closed, it still left a chunk mark. The Oysterquartz is also reassuringly chunky, coming in at 13.5mm thick and feeling just as weighty as a modern automatic sports watch. The only negative about how the watch wears is the length of each bracelet link. To fit my 7-inch wrist, I only have six links present on each side of the clasp. That will determine if it's some sort of "heat rash" or if it's actually a reaction to the metal in the clasp. The watch isn't loose, but it isn't tight either. It can slide around freely, but not to an extreme..like sliding to the underside of the wrist.
